Pitch

Tommaso is 16 and hasn’t left his house for the past 18 months. One videogame in particular hogs his days: Us. In it, teams of three players engage in 100 historical campaigns that allow them to live through the massacres of the 20th century. The ultimate challenge will be to learn how to become human.

Comments

Michele Cocchi works as a child and adolescent psychotherapist. His stories have appeared in magazines and anthologies, including PADRE (Elliot). In 2010 he published the anthology TUTTO SAREBBE TORNATO A POSTO (Elliot) collection, a Fahrenheit's book of the year finalist. His first novel is LA COSA GIUSTA (Effegi 2016), while in 2017 he published LA CASA DEI BAMBINI for Fandango, winner in 2018 of the XXXVII edition of the Giovanni Comisso Award.

Summary

Three teenagers take part in a role play video game and discover real life. In the virtual world, they find themselves in the middle of historical events of the 20th century and have to make difficult moral and strategic decisions.

One hundred campaigns, maximum one campaign a day and an hour and a half or two to complete them. One year to finish the game. It’s possible to re-read the rules listed by the Great Sage, but not to see again the video of the preliminary interview with him. He would have liked to hear it again. "You, Tommaso, are not satisfied with your life," it was stricking as he told him. "You get along with your brothers, but they are very different from you. Your parents don't understand you. And no friends now. Life in the countryside does not satisfy you. School up until now is a failure. "

The Great Sage knows you, he pondered, he speaks to you as youself, not to you as if you were anyone else. Or did he let himself be influenced and does the Great Sage say things that can adapt to very different situations? Perhaps Us collects information from browsing the web, geographic location, pages visited, shared information and modulates the video on these data. Or is there something else?
After all, if you downloaded the game it is for what the Great Sage says in the advertising trailer: "Do you really think you're not a hero? I will prove you the opposite."
