Pitch

Set in July 2023, against the backdrop of a climate change-ravaged Sweden. Lilly Hed arrives to a new job in the police force in small-town Nynäshamn. At the encouragement of the charming town fire chief, she starts investigating a series of arson-murders that have started widespread forest fires.

Comments

First book in a new eco-thriller series. 300 DEGREES is set during a summer of deadly wildfires, the second book will take place in a raging storm and the ensuing blackout.

Pitched for fans of Jane Harper’s THE DRY.

She wrote a previous series centred around Detective Investigator Liv Kaspi, who is briefly mentioned in this book, though the series stand apart.

Pernilla Ericson is a Stockholm-based author and journalist. Issues of feminism, racism and the climate are at the heart of both her journalism and novels.

Summary

Book 1: 300 GRADER

In desperate times, people will take advantage. With the world on fire it’s hard to know: who is helping, and who is feeding the flames?

It is summer 2023, and the world is on fire. A brutal heatwave plagues the world with drought and firestorms. In Australia, suburbs have been wiped out and in Sweden, cities and forests from north to south are ablaze.

Investigator Lilly Hed has recently left a promising, but chaotic, managing career in Stockholm to seek calm at the east coast. She hopes that the idyllic Nynäshamn will save her from the destruction and darkness that looms over her, but she will soon learn that she cannot escape neither her or past nor the dangerous climate. A fire starts, posing a great threat to her new city, and pushing the fire department to its limits. What first appears to be a couple of accidents, soon turns out to be something much worse, and Lilly is put on the case. But what do you do when all trace evidence has literally gone up in smoke?

300 DEGREES is a climate thriller reminiscent of Jane Harper’s The Dry, about destructive heat, people showing their true colors under pressure, and trying to escape one’s own dark past. It is the first book in the fresh new eco-thriller series by renowned author Pernilla Ericson, who first became beloved with her series about Detective Investigator Liv Kaspi. 300 DEGREES is the lead crime title of Romanus and Selling this autumn, and is a fresh new start for the author.
